Eugenio Degani, Venice 1891

About the instrument:

Eugenio Degani worked with his father Domenico in Montagnana before moving to Venice in 1888. His instruments show high craftsmanship and are particularly characteristic with a personal style, deeply carved scrolls and distinctive corners with neat purfling. The varnish used was prepared from his own formula with a yellow-red brown colour.

The violin back, length 364mm, is in two pieces of quarter-sawn maple with a strong curl of medium width; the ribs, neck and scroll of similar wood. The front is of broad-medium grain spruce and the varnish of a golden-brown colour.

How does it sound?

Very clear tonal quality with a great response across the range.
