About the instrument:

A German violin made in Dresden c.1890 and labelled ‘Copy of Antonius Stradivarius made in Germany.’

The violin is also branded ‘Conser-vatory Violin -.- Stradivarius’ on the back of the scroll.

The violin back, length 359mm, is in one piece of quarter-sawn maple with faint curl of medium width; the ribs, scroll and neck of similar wood. The front is of fine grain spruce. The varnish of a deep golden-brown colour.
